Election Day a National Holiday

I published the following piece about making election day a national holiday in the Providence Journal. As I say toward the end of the Op-Ed:

We are in the midst of one of the greatest legitimacy crises in our history, and we need to face facts. American democracy is about more than the fact that we hold elections. It’s about the legitimacy that those elections hold.
